A Professional Sex Writer

SEO Writer Since 2005 — Top-Ranked Freelancer — Certified Sexuality Professional

As a sex writer, I feel it’s important to write content that provides real value to the audience. There’s so much misinformation and many harmful ideas about sex out there already—I don’t want to add to that noise.

Shannon Burton, SXI

My writing journey started early in life. I grew up in Los Angeles in the ’90s, and used a typewriter to tap out bedtime stories I’d read to my siblings.

My family moved to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands in the early 2000s. There, I earned my B.A. in English and Secondary Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I was a member of my university’s English Honors Society and a contributor to the student newspaper, the UVI Voice.

By then, I was already running a popular blog about nonmonogamy, and had even written my senior thesis on blogging. Already, I’d noticed how search engines like Google directed visitors to my blog thanks to strategic keyword placement.

After earning my degree, I taught high school English and directed the school’s yearbook team. Over time, my side gig as a freelance SEO writer slowly grew into full-time work.

Today, I reside in New Orleans and write articles and blogs for sex coaches, app content for sexual health educators, and social media content for sexuality authors. I also edit and proofread adult books, founded a sex-positive book club, and manage sex-positive online communities.

I’ve written for B2B SaaS companies,  marketing entrepreneurs featured by Forbes, and even for myself. I’m a certified sex coach through The Sexology Institute and maintain a coaching and educational practice alongside my sex content writing.

Think I may be a good fit for your next adult writing project? Let’s find out!
